Melbourne Walk

Melbourne from Southgate

Today I had an early appointment with the doctor for an innoculation. I've got a placement at a wildlife rehab centre in Thailand and the vaccinations I got for south-east Asia don't cover me working with animals. So it was the earliest start for me for a while!

After being jabbed I took a recommended walk through the city armed with my Lonely Planet book, taking in some of the little arcades and historical frontages in Art Deco and Victorian styles. I wandered past churches, theatres and took the lift to the 35th floor of the Sofitel to see the views. Sadly I was too intimidated in my shabby travel clothes to venture into the cafe to have a proper look so I satisfied myself with glimpses from the inner balcony stairs. Finally it took me through China Town, from where I took a meandering walk back home again, via a free exhibition at the State Library on Victorian Holidays, to arrive knackered around 2pm.

We'd planned to have a picnic in the Botanical Gardens but the weather, while not cold or wet, wasn't perfect for drinking beer and playing frisbee, so Zoe cooked risotto and we all had a dinner together before Zoe and I leave tomorrow for St Kilda.
