When I woke after another 12 hour marathon sleep it was already 1.30pm and the boys were up practicising their set for the evening's cocktail party they had been asked to play at. We went shopping for clothes and shoes, me finally relenting and buying a pair of heels despite all the guide books telling me I would never need them. The guide book assumes you will not be visiting friends in big cities who insist on taking you expensive dress-up places where you feel out of place dressed in your travelling garb! Back at the house we got ready and headed out to The Library, a new function space designed to look like a Georgian house with grand hall, library seating room, and bar decked out with colourful cocktails. The ambience was lovely, with Frank Sinatra playing and everyone dripping in silk and pearls.
At around 11pm the hostess and other people started clamouring for dance music and Luke and Andy started to play. The set was excellent and a few people started dancing but as the night wore on many people left to go onto other engagements complaining about the drinks prices. The hostess wouldn't hear that the drinks prices were too much or understand that many people had assumed this was only an evening thing, not a whole night thing and asked them to stop playing, suggesting that it was their music that was driving people away. They were gracious, though it was an anti-climax, so we got some cheap beer from the supermarket and headed home for our own after-party!
