Happy Ending in Bangkok...I hope!

After an amazing, yet draining time in Phi Phi Island, Claire and I returned to Bangkok (me for the first time, since STA messed up my tickets in Colombo). We were exhausted and decided to pass the afternoon in our hotel rom how we knew best: doing crosswords and lounging. Can you believe that the hotel, grandiosely named Diamond City, did not carry Starz Movies!? Crazy.
We decided to splurge on lunch, ordering room service at $3 each. There was a great lost in translation moment (well, there were many) when we called reception to take away our dishes, and we accomplished to communicate our room number but nothing more.
That night, we headed to a red-light district which was incredibly disappointing even though they promised tricks with ping pong balls if we entered... We almost entered but since we had just withdrawn a ton of cash, we decided not to. In transit, we were proud at negotiating tuk tuk prices even though I´m sure we got fleeced, just a little less then they intended. Riding a tuk tuk in Bangkok is an interesting and lung-blackening experience with the crazy number of vehicles spewing exhaust.
We ended up going to MBK, a big shopping area for hot pot dinner, which was delicious! We came an hour before closing which apparently is when they start the fire drill to close the restaurant. We were forced to order quickly, pay, and then eat.
I called it an early night as I had to leave early the next morning for Cambodia. What a crazy ride to the airport, with the driver zigzagging and grunting on the phone!
No happy ending, but I learned this crazy fact about Bangkok. What name could be funnier than Bangkok? Bangmakok, which was apparently its name before its current circumcised form!
