Back to the States...briefly

Me and the grandparents eating Japanese food. Popo Tam is wondering why I take so many photos when there's sashimi to be eaten!

I'm on a plane back to Los Angeles and it feels odd and a bit surreal. It's hard to believe not even 2 months have gone by and I've done such incredible things. I've been less timely with writing and blogging on the Peru trip so some of my entries will be colored by hindsight. Peru has been a different type of trip - very much more cultural and historical while the Galapagos portion was much more nature focused.

It's hard to really note what has changed but every day and every activity has presented a new physical, mental, or emotional challenge.  Every challenge is an opportunity to conquer a fear I've had. Every turbulent palm-soaking shake of the plane allows me to confront my intense fear of flying and in turn, of death. I've never been so happy and so positively challenged in my life so consistently. I am a little apprehensive about coming back to the States (and excited to catch up on my TV shows). And I'm really excited to see my grandparents.

I spent most of my 4 days in LA with my grandparents playing mah jong (I ended up $2 up over two days), eating, organizing my photos and updating my blog.  I had a very hard time forcing myself to throw the toilet paper into the toilet instead of into a nearby wastebasket.  Ahh...western living.  Back to Oz to pick up my worldly possessions and see good friends!
