The Journey Begins...

Raleigh Travel Blog › entry 1 of 36 › view trip summary

Number of days on the road: 13. Number of states driven through: 13. Number of miles traveled: over 5700. Number of speeding tickets: 3. The cost of driving cross country: priceless! My cousin and I "took the long" way so that we can see America. Here is my retrospective of that adventure which I would like to share with the TravBuddy world.

The Journey Begins...

Road Trip!
As soon as I picked up my cousin Mar from the Raleigh/Durham airport, we set off on our cross country journey.  Equipped with the 2006 National Parks Pass, we planned to visit as many National Parks, Monuments, and Seashores as we could along the way.  Our first stop was the Outer Banks off the coast of North Carolina.  The Outer Banks is a collective term referring to the towns that are located on a thin stretch of barrier islands that protect North Carolina's coast from the Atlantic Ocean.  To get to the Outer Banks from Raleigh, we took Highway 64 heading East driving past farmland, pine forests, swamps, and marshlands.   North Carolina has some of the best paved roads...smooth...which made the drive enjoyable.
