Number of days on the road: 13. Number of states driven through: 13. Number of miles traveled: over 5700. Number of speeding tickets: 3. The cost of driving cross country: priceless! My cousin and I "took the long" way so that we can see America. Here is my retrospective of that adventure which I would like to share with the TravBuddy world.

Heading Deeper South...

We leave Charleston via US 17 S (Savannah Hwy) towards Georgia. Since there was plenty of daylight left, we decided to take a detour (Trask Parkway or Hwy 21) and drive through Beaufort. In the town of Beaufort, Trask Parkway becomes Boundary Street which then turns into Carteret Street. At 1106 Carteret Street is the Beaufort Visitor Center which is housed in a classic Southern home with a verandah that spans the side of the building. And if memory serves me correctly, the verandah had several rocking chairs for visitors to pass the time. The visitor center was the perfect pitstop for a bathroom break and a chance to stretch out the legs. Across the street from the visitor center is an idyllic view of Beaufort River and the Intracoastal Waterway. My cousin took pictures...but sadly her camera was stolen.
