Red Roofs of Faro

I feel going to Portugal today. Would you like to come with me? I want to revisit that country where the accent of their Portugese is lovable. However, it is not just the accent or the language that I love in Portugal, there are many other things that I love in Portugal. I love their Vinho do Porto (Port wine). I love their fresh and cheap fish. I love their opulent sunsets on the beaches. Also I love lots of their places like the Azores with their beautiful volcanic islands, the Aviero with its Venetian feel of canals and charming bridges, and Lisbon. There are other beautiful places you can visit in Portugal, such as the Evora, Sintra, Madeira, etc. However, for those of you who had never gone to Portugal, I advise you plan your trip now to Faro, Portugal.

Ilha da Barreta

Faro is the capital city of Algarve. It has an area 202.6 sq. km of underrated city-land, because as reviewers would comment on this poor city “there are better towns than Faro in Portugal”. However, that statement does no justice to this underrated town, because it has things to boast that could compete with other places in Portugal.

Barreta Island

Feel like eating? Then you should visit Barreta Island. In Ilha da Bareta you can find the finest gourmet seafood restaurant called Estamine Restaurante. The Estamine Restaurante serves only the best cuisines of seafood unparalleled in the region that surrounds. Moreover, if you do not feel like eating you can still ferry to Ilha da Bareta for its natural sights.

Did you know that Ilha da Bareta is the home of the Flamingos and Terns? Yes, in Ilha da Bareta you can find the genuine and most sought after bird called Flamingos.

Risso’s Dolphins
Also, Ilha da Bareta becomes a sanctuary also to migratory birds from different parts of the world. So you if you are fond of birds you can find them in Ilha da Barea.

On the other hand if you do not like to eat seafood or avian viewing well you can always enjoy the sea, because Ilha da bareta is a sand bar after all. No one will stop you in bathing on its beaches, unless you intend to drown yourself.

Whale and Dolphin Watching in Faro

What do you expect if the place you go to is always surrounded by water? Interesting underwater Fauna of course! When you dive in the depths of Faro’s seas you would see the variety of species that inhabit the waters below.

Sea Turtles could be seen relaxingly swimming in the calm waters, fish that are busily buzzing through their neighborhood of corals, but the highlight of the waters here are the dolphins and whales.

Old town Gate

It is estimated that more than 8 species of dolphins and whales inhabit the depths. You can find here the Bottlenose dolphins, Harbor Porpoise and Risso’s dolphins. Whales also inhabit the depths like the Orca, Fin Whale, Sei Whale, Minke-Whale and many more. It is expected also that it will be home to more species as more marine life are migrating from one place to another. Thus, the migration of whales and dolphins is another reason to visit Faro soon.

Faro Old Town

When you arrive at Faro, a request of mine would be, try to assimilate the atmosphere and ambience of the town. Do not just treat it as another itinerary of your transit; treat it as one of your travel destinations. If you just look around you will see the beauty of this underrated town.

You know when I visited Faro; I could always remember their nightlife.

Statue of Bishop Dom Francisco Gomes do Avelar (1739-1816) on Cathedral Square
Faro has a student population of over 8000, so the nights here are always joyous. I can even remember that they have theatre plays, which was beautifully acted by its student cast. I could also never forget the old town’s marvelously preserved medieval quarters that have been reborn into curious museums. Moreover, I will never fail to mention the churches and the bone chapel that pepper the Old Town of Faro. Thus, appreciate this underrated town. Explore its nooks and crannies and you will be surprised to find that it is as grand as the other destinations of Portugal.

So my advice go now! Join me to Faro! Pack your bags and plan your main destination in Portugal which is Faro. In addition to that, if you plan to roam around Faro rent a car at Faro airport. Every journey and trip is always better when you are on wheels.
