Left Salzburg and travelled for several hours to reach Fussen in Germany. Met a couple of people at the train station who were staying at the same hostel as me, so we decided to walk there together. An unmarked white van pulled up and the lady in the passenger seat jumped out and asked if we were staying at House LA (the hostel we'd all booked to stay in.) We agreed, so she and the driver proceeded to tell us they had a hostel for the same price with a better location just down the road.. and we should go with them. They claimed to work for House LA, so we decided to take a punt. As i said to my new found friends - this could either work out well for us, or we could die! Obviously, the former occurred. yay!
After settling in for the night at the 'new' House LA, we set out in the morning to visit nearby Hohenschwangau and Neuschwenstein castles. We did a tour of Hohenschwangau castle as this is the one the royals actually lived in. Ludwig (who was apparently a bit of a nutter) designed Neuschwenstein castle, but it wasn't even finished before he mysteriously died. This castle is famous as Disney's 'Fantasia' castle... it's gorgeous! We did some hiking around the area for some absolutely stunning views!
We also went back to Fussen and walked around there. The river is such an amazing colour, it almost looks like someone has put aqua food colouring in the water! Absolutely amazing. This area was definitely one of my highlights so far.. would highly recommend a visit to anyone.
Next stop - oktoberfest!!!
