Cape Town

Founded 1652 by Jan van Riebeeck of the Verenigde Oost-indische Compagnie, VOC as a way-station for ships travelling to the Dutch East Indies. Britain captured Cape Town in 1795 and it became the capital of the Cape Colony.
You can make esy daytips to Simon's Town,  Stellenbosch, Franschhoek,  and Hermanns.

Simon's Town is a easy daytrip from Cape Town by car, maybe 1 hour or a bit slower by suburban train.
Founded 1687 by the Governor of the Cape Colony, Simon van der Stel, is today home of the South African Navy.
Boulders Beach is a few kilometres to the south has and a colony of African penguins since 1985, the water is cold, but ýou can swim there.

Also Stellenbosch  is a easy daytrip by car, maybe 50 minutes or a bit slower by suburban train.
Founded 1679 by the Governor of the Cape Colony, Simon van der Stel, in the late 17 century some Huguenot refugees settled in Stellenbosch and grapes were planted, education began in earnest in 1859 with the opening of a seminary for the Dutch Reformed Church and 1918 the University of Stellenbosch. Today Stellenbosch is a university and wine growing tourist town with a quite nice atmosphere. A realy nice museum showing the information and main entrance building and 4 buildings from the 18. and 19. century with the original furnitures.

Lovely photographs illustrate your interesting review. The penguins at Boulder Beach are a great attraction. My late mother lived in Stellenbosch briefly, on a winery at the edge of the town. Most of my family lived in Cape Town before WW2.
