Near the Andy Warhol museum. I loved seeing these old signs on the converted buildings.

We arrived at the Andy Warhol Museum early and spent some time talking to a friendly barista in the museum’s cafe. In 1984 she moved to Pittsburgh from New Jersey at the age of 14; she said how much she was taken by the friendliness of the people, which contrasted greatly with what she had known in New Jersey. Over the next few days I came to understand what she meant.

Eventually our friends arrived, and we proceeded into the Warhol. The museum offered free entry on Friday evenings in January, and was full with a wide assortment of people. Afterward we went to dinner at Nicky’s Thai Kitchen, where I had a delicious Pineapple Curry. After eating, my friend Nancy and her husband Steve took us on a walking tour of the downtown area; it was lovely at night. We briefly stopped in the Fairmont Pittsburgh, a luxury hotel, to warm ourselves, then we continued our walk. We finally said goodnight and SFAU and I returned home, and sank exhausted into sleep.
