Musandam, a part of Oman separated by the Northern Emirates of UAE, is dubbed the Fjord of the Arabia. It is comparable in its beauty to the fjords in Norway.

Impressive fjords

The Musandam Peninsula, situated on the tip of Arabia, is dubbed the Fjord of the Arabia and is comparable in its beauty to the fjords in Norway.

The drive from Dubai, especially after passing the Omani borders, was very pleasurable as it took us along the breathtaking and winding coastal road and passing by several Omani bedouine villages before reaching the harbour town of Khasab.

From Khasab, we took the dhow cruise out the Hormuz Straits to Khor Sham through a majestic 25km fjord.

Impressive limestones of the fjords

The scenery was breathtaking with the naturally craved limestone mountains rising sharply out of the turquoise and crystal clear calm waters. Along the fjords, we past through several tiny villages that were so remote that they were only accessible by boats. The dhow boat also stopped at several spots where the visitors could snorkel and swim in the pristine waters teeming with colourful fishes. At certain areas along the fjords, there were also playful dolphins swimming alongside the boat and mesmerizing all the visitors. It was really an enjoyable cruise!

Near the Khasab town in Musandam was an Acacia Forest. It was particularly interesting because everything about this place was barren and dry but out in the middle between the rocky hills as this “forest” with three or more trees grouped together. What a glorious and rare sight to see trees in such a barren place. Out there, I met the greediest goat that ate everything we fed him including used tissues paper!
