There had been at least three times that I planned to take the public transportation from my town to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX.)  However, every time I do, I always changed mind.  That’s because I still prefer that my family gave me a ride or send me off to the airport.

We left my town on Saturday, October 29 at precisely 4:00 p.m.  The drive would usually take four hours, but the traffic was bumper to bumper up ahead on Interstate 5 due to a vehicular accident .  That two hours on the road is the most unproductive time of my life!  I could not do anything -- no internet connection (were in mountainous area,) no landscape views (it was already nighttime,) and no food (I did not bring any!)  I didn't know why I did not bring snacks to nibble; and that is not very me.

Congested traffic due to road accident...
I usually bring the entire pantry when on a road trip!  By the time the highway cleared up, all four of us were starving.  On the first sign of civilization, my two blurry eyes immediately scanned for a restaurant.  The hubby was craving for chicken so, KFC it is.  Honestly, I was not satisfied with the quality of food from this particular KFC branch.  It is sad how franchise restaurants run their business these days.  The food is very substandard now unlike ten or twenty years ago when food quality is the top priority.  These days, the return of investments is what matters and everything else are just secondary.  What do you say Colonel Sanders?

Anyhow, after spending an hour dissecting the food (instead of enjoying it,) we hopped back to the van and continued driving.

with TB Andrew (DrewJ) -- very sensible young man!
We reached our destination at 11:00 p.m.   My flight to Newark is not until 6:30 a.m. the following day, so we spent the remaining time at USO.  My two teenagers love staying there mainly for free food and free Wi-Fi use!  Have I mentioned yet that I met up with a fellow TravBuddy right at the USO?  The TravBuddy I am referring to is Andrew (DrewJ,) and he is quite new to the site.  I mentioned to my comments on his photos that I would be in LAX for my hub to a flight to Newark.  He said that maybe he could say “hello,” which I replied with “that will be nice!”  Andrew’s blogs for Japan are interesting, and his writing style is what made me follow his updates.  He has this very innocent, sometimes funny but deep thoughts on traveling.

Before we parted ways that night, I encouraged him to interact more with fellow TBs because for sure, he’ll learn a lot especially from those seasoned travelers out here!  I had the chance to introduce him to my threesomes.  The teenagers were delighted to find out that Andrew has traveled to Japan – the teens' number one dream destination!  More about the meetup in my "TRAVBUDDY MINI MEET UP BLOG."

Andrew and I said our goodbye when it was almost midnight.  I felt exhausted from the drive, and so my husband.  Thankfully, the USO have folding mattresses, so we grabbed and laid out two of those and slept for three hours.  At exactly, 4:00 a.m. I got up to get ready and had a cup of coffee.

And then thirty minutes later, all four of us walked toward Terminal 7 – the terminal for United Airlines.  The queue for the security control was insanely long!  That’s because the United Airlines had started to check in passengers as early as 3:00 a.m. but security control did not open until 5:00 a.m.  Ridiculous!  Well, at least the flight was on schedule.  I was in the middle seat, but there are aisle seats open, so I moved there and could sleep almost the entire flying time.  Quite unusual for me but of course won’t complain about that.  I need rest.  It is going to be a long day!  Our plane touched down at Newark's Runway at 2:30 p.m.  Next, I picked my backpack at the luggage conveyor, which was checked-in free of charge!  I was one of those passengers who volunteered to have their hand carries checked in at the boarding gate back in LAX.

Finally, I was outside the airport building on Terminal C!  I did not wait that long; and my Airbnb host was there to pick me up at the airport.  The apartment is not very far from EWR (Newark Liberty International Airport.)  ~

I travelled through LAX (many years ago) and they are indeed appalling. I can only think of NAIA that is worse and which you will obviously know. Yes, it was the day before Thanksgiving (November 1991) but there were actually elderly people collapsing and requiring medical assistance. Took well over two hours to get through it. Appalling. I wil never fly through LAX again.
