my first views of Hong Kong, from the airport bus

I landed in Hong Kong around 10am, after an easy flight from Abu Dhabi. It wasn't fully booked so it was comfortable 7.5hrs, streching on couple of seats. I took some money out of ATM, bought Octopus card for HK transportation, and then looked for a while for the bus A23 to Kowloon. Finally found it, and arrived just before 1pm to the hostel in Chung King Mansion. My room was not ready eventhough I requested early check in, but when I complained they quickly got to it and within minutes I moved in.

After a brief rest I went out to check out Kowloon, looking for Avenue of Stars first. It’s under renovation, but statues are moved upstairs and I found them easily just by following the crowd. Great views of the bay from the terrace above! I wandered around the area and got to the Clock Tower and found where Star Ferry leaves from.

I went into Harbour City big shopping mall looking for food court. It was lots of Asian foods, from Korean to different Chinese cuisines. I picked one Chinese and waited for a long time while other Chinese guests had priority. Nobody spoke English, I showed them on the menu what I wanted, fried rice noodles with beef, but I got noodles with beef in a soup. Nevermind, it was yummy. I must have looked very funny as I stragled to eat long slippery noodles with chopsticks from the big ball. At least I had a good laugh at myself :D Splattered myself all over as I was trying to eat noodles and they kept slipping back into the soup. It was very tasty and so much fun! Then I went out and stumbled on very beautiful Heritage Mall. Expensive stores that are not my thing, but the grand old building and its surroundings make for a very pretty sight. From here I went down to the promenade near the Clock Tower to watch the famous Light Show. It was great to see the big buildings all lit up now, but I didn't feel like this was such a spectacle. It was so crowded with everybody looking to make that perfect shot, pushing and shoving to get the best spot. So my first day in Hong Kong finished here, and I was excited about the rest of my trip.
