Here are some top cities to visit in Northwest Sicily. The photo viewed here is the Cathedral of Palermo or its official name Santa Maria Assunta. Formally a Mosque then converted to a Christian cathedral after the Arabs where defeated by the Norman Count Count Roger I. It is an magnificent structure with an equally magnificient interior.

Another city founded by the Elymians, in ancient times the city was known as Eryx. This is a walled city that sits on top of a mountain 800 meters above sea level - the view is amazing. From here you can see the town of Trapani, the coastline of the eastern & northern parts of Sicily and Tunisia. Erice is famous for its cobblestoned streets and two medival castles, Pepoli Castle (15th century) and the Norman castle Castello di Venere (Venus Castle) (12th century) - Amazingly the wall that surrounds the city dates back to the Punic times.
