My visits to the PI

Return to the PI . . .

Unoccupied farm house at Hacienda Antipolo, Negros Occidental
I took another one of those 25 hour travels and flew from Virginia to Manila and on to Bacolod City.  I hate those long flights.  They are so exhausting and worse when I do not get enough sleep which is usually the case.  There wasn't much in ways of excitement this visit

We did spend a day at Pandanon Mountain Resort in Murcia.  It was a weekday so we were the only guests there. Unfortunately, less than half of my relatives were able to attend.  They had several cottages for rent and cabins as well.  There were plenty of trees and even a monkey chained up for display   The whole day was spent bathing in the river, eating and more bathing.

My dad, aunt and cousin played
mahjong which is a game of skill, strategy, calculation and luck.

A family gathering was held on my last weekend there.  You can't have a party without lechon.  That would be suckling pig.  It was cholesterol overload but who cares.  It's a rare treat for me

My flight out of Manila was very early so I had to fly into Manila the night before and stay in a hotel.  It was recommended by my parents.  It was not too far from the airport and had a restaurant inside.  The room was not bad.  It had a kitchenette which I had no use for.  I just think the bathroom could have been bleached some.

The flight back was awful for me as usual and more this time.  But that's a long story.  I made it home safely and that's the important part.

I can't wait for August 2008

Wherever you go in the PI someone offers you food. I can pass a street vendor who's eating and he'll offer me something. I've always wondered how they would react if I accepted ;-)

You Philippine people love food isn't it. The whole family together. Young and old. You know what live is about. We dutch don't know or understand that.
I have a phillipinian collegue, and often when we're eating when we are at work, she gives me some food and says to me: "Hans eat, Hans eat". Very funny.

Pandanon Silos Mountain and River Resort in Murcia is 45 minutes outside of Bacolod City.

They offer huts and cottages for rent to use during the day. If you'd like to stay the night, you can also rent cottages. They have a building with 3 rooms, 2 of which are connecting. All cottages and rooms have private bathrooms.

There is a pool available for a charge. The river is free to use and relaxing with the flowing water.

The resort has an abundance of trees that provide shade. If you're not much into swimming, you can just relax in a hut and enjoy the breeze.

The best time to go here is in the weekday when there are less people. It's one of many great places to be when you want an escape from the noise and air pollution.
