The boys at Emancipation Park

We overnighted in Toronto with friends, then took the subway and bus to the airport for our flight to Kingston.  The flight was delayed close to an hour while we were already boarded, first due to people taking the wrong seats, and then because a piece of luggage had made the flight, but the traveler hadn't, so the bag needed to be located and taken off.

After the delays, the flight was pretty uneventful.  We disembarked, and followed the crowds to immigration.  Not too long of a line, and afterward we had no bags to claim as we had just brought carryons, so we went out and found our ride waiting for us.

The driver, who had been arranged through where we were staying, stopped us at the grocery store and at Dominos to pick up pizza (I know, pretty unadventurous food choice, but it was quick and easy for our initial arrival), and then took us to Pat's, who has a guesthouse that we found on the website homestay.  I hadn't used that website before, and I thought that we would be the only people staying in someone's house, but it was actually a large guesthouse that had several other travelers.  The house was older and not fancy, but clean and well-kept.  We had a big room with a king bed and a cot, and great pillows :)  We unloaded our bags, and enjoyed our pizza out on the porch, then talked with Pat for awhile.

She asked our plans for the evening- as it was already past 6, I had just thought we'd stay in, but she was insistent that we check things out abit, so she called her taxi driver Terrence, and he came to get us a little after 7.

Terrence was a great guy (tel: 4619340 and 7725722, taxi #46 with On Time Taxi).  He took us to Devon House to get ice cream- the place was packed.  After, he dropped us off at Emancipation Park for awhile.  The park has a walking/jogging track around it and a bandshell where concerts are sometimes held.  It's very safe, there were several police present, and lots of people enjoying the evening: couples sitting on the benches, a group doing Zumba or some kind of dance class, joggers running laps on the track.

After the park, we headed back to the house for the night.
