Lucerne
A tour of Lucerne was the highlight of the day. The Lion Monument, and the old town area. We could have taken a cable car gondola up to the top of the mountains, but since my wife and I are not to too happy at heights we decided to stay down near the lake. We walked the old town area and took pictures and relaxed the day away. Kind of a nice change. A snack at the McDonald's consisting of a regular (small) hamburger, one small fries, and one medium coke was $9.20 francs. Luckily our American dollar was worth $1.28 in their francs. But still a little steep.
We were on our own for dinner that night too. One of the other couples on our tour joined us for a nice Italian dinner in town. Can you top that, in Italy we just ate fish, but in Switzerland we are Italian! A nice dinner either way and with a glass of wine, and good company, we enjoyed the evening.
Back at the hotel we drank coffee and chatted on the front porch overlooking the lake and far mountains and relaxed until bedtime with our traveling companions.
Clean and nice surroundings, fine food, good wine choice, good service. The top four things in finding a good restaurant. La Fenice covers all of the above and does so at a fair and average price.
Our choice for the evening was Lasagne. Not too much tomato in the sauce, or cheese on the top. All done quite nicely.
Your other choice would be to hop in a cab, suffer the enormous fair, and do the five or six hour drive to Venice. And you still might not get as good a meal.
