Fly out day
May 15, 2005
I set off the alarms at the airport with my suspenders which had metals clips, metal gromets on my shoes and even a roll of Lifesavers in my pocket. The guy who did my body search was thorough but nice. Naturally we had to wait in the terminal for nearly four hours, but spent the time watching people and planes. I have always loved to watch people, and the planes carry such great color schemes. The flight out was via KLM 747 and with me being big, was uncomfortable. They served two good meals on the flight from Los Angeles to Amsterdam, Holland. I had Chicken and rice, asian style and my wife had Alfredo noodles with spinich. Even wine! A nice Reesling and a red that I couldn't name. It was hard to move with 3 seats. My wife had the window seat and I was in the middle seat with another gentleman in the aisle seat. So tried to get comfortable, relax, and eventually fell asleep. The morning meal with about two hours left of the flight was a sausage patty in a buiscut, a cup of yogurt, cup of pears, an oatmeal bar, cup of coffee. Again, good food (for a plane). Arrived in Amsterdam at about 11 a.m on Monday an hour ahead of schedule.

Brendan Tours has been around since the late sixties. And they have built themselves into one of the best vacation providers in the world. They offer escorted tours in Britain, Europe, Canada, the United States, Central America, South America, Australia, New Zealand and Africa. Their tours include hotel accommodation, many meals, some excursions or side trips, entry fees for most highlights throughout the tour, along with transportation between cities. Many include special localized tours in the destination cities. Each tour has a tour guide picked for his or her knowledge and background of the area the tour covers. The tours are generally rated as first class, based on quality and amenities of accommodations and restaurants and cost from around $75 to $275 per person, per day, plus airfare. Some discounts are available and offered through various sources.
We took two tours, arranged for us by the Southern California Automobile Club (AAA), first Europe for 15 days and then Britain and the U.K. for 15 days, with a couple of extra days in London. Thirty-five days altogether was a long and tiring trip, especially rising at 6am daily to shower, dress, and eat before making the bus. The ends of the days were usually less hectic and several evenings were spent relaxing in the nice hotel rooms. Your time is pretty well timed out from morning to evening so you don’t have much spare time on your own. This type of tour is only one form on their packages. We found it to be a very enjoyable time, but will probably take another style in the future. Perhaps a fly and drive and/or a cruise.
