We spent a good hour roaming the airport and front area for our tour transfer. Finally our tour director, Elzo Wind, found us. Off to the hotel to sit around for an hour until our rooms were cleaned. Our first hotel is Mercure Aan De Amstel. Quite a distance from downtown. Clean and nice and done in what would I would call modern style.
In the "What's goin on" newspaper we saw that Larry Carlton, one of my favorite Jazz Guitarists, is in town for one show that night at Melkweg, a good local venue. We decided to take a tram into town to see about it. Our hotel there was probably four or five miles from the town center. We walked about a quarter mile to the tram station, found the right one and headed into town. With help from very polite and helpful locals we found our way to the right place, and asked about the event. 25 Euros each beginning at 9 p.m.. We decided we would be just too tired to enjoy it so we made our way back to the hotel where we had a nice buffet style dinner with the tour group. During introductions met a couple from my home town, San Pedro, CA., who ended up being good friends on the tour.
