Everyone should consider spending a saturday night in the dorm as bad taste. It seems as if the complete student body of AIU thinks this way. Americans in particular. So off we all went, at diferent times and in diferent, mutating groups, to Akita City. To get there one must first take the bus to Wada Station (+/- 15 minutes) and then the train to Akita, 20 minutes more. Once there, you notice that Akita really is a relatively small city. There was a Jazz festival thing going on, but with all the mess and absolute ignorance of our whereabouts we just formed an odd group of gaijin looking for food. Somehow the group desintegrated as people would go in diferent directions, until someone noticed an okonomiyake shop.
most expensive beer ever 940 yen
It looked good enough, but the lady there was gesticulating and saying something to the americans up front. Now I must say that the general level of japanese language in our group was so bad they actually had to relly on me as an interpreter. Yeah, it was that bad. So the lady just told me that the restaurant was booked for a party of sailor-suited highschool girls coming down the street. Too bad, I miss okonomiyaki
. We just went back to the main plaza in front of the station and got in this goodlooking restaurant with those individual cabins where you leave your shoes at the door, sit on the floor and put your feet under the table. After dinner (with an uncomprehensible tab) we met some more people in front of the only local Starbucks and then headed off to the so-called Red Light District area, though it is nothing more than a long street full of bars and drinking houses.
they have a Shibuya-style screen!
We got into one and just laid back, as the americans, mostly Katrina, planned to do some pub-crawling and then crash at the only karaoke place that's open all night. Memorable moment: one Guiness - 940 Yen (+/- 6 Euros). The most expensive beer of my whole life!! The group split up again because some of us had no interest in staying all night, so 4 of us just went to a soba
shop so that Brenan could eat and then got lost in the city, though we managed to make it on time for the last train at 22:40. We were suposed to get a taxi on our way to AIU, but some japanese students were at Wada and were nice enough to give us all a lift. Getting back to the dorm I find some people watching High School Musical in the Lobby. For the second time in a row!!!!! Then me and some of the guys just started making fun of the film when Chiaki put it on for the third time!!!! People have limits ....
