Relaxing in Orlando

Quick five day trip to Orlando, FL where we visited Epcot Center, went to Cirque du Soleil in Disney Downtown, spend a couple of days exploring Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios before visiting the Kennedy Space Center on our last day.

Relaxing in Orlando

First of all I must declare that I love Orlando. It is just a great place to escape from the daily fare of work and business worries and travel to some fantasy land where all you worry about is where eat your turkey leg, which themepark to choose and how to optimize the time in the lines (damn, I am an engineer after all...cant help it).

My favorite way of enjoying Orlando is going there for 4 days, stay somewhere close to Universal (since Islands of Adventure is my favorite theme park ever), rent a convertible, go to Cirque du Soleil and have a good time at night at the Universal City Walk eaty unhealthy food, drinking those weird colorful cocktails and listening to whatever is playing in the Hard Rock Cafe.

It is an excellent way to relax for a long weekend and it is close enough to Lima that I dont have to spend a whole day getting there. Overall, one of my favorite destinations for what I would call fast and furious relaxation time.

I have been in California a couple of times but always in San Francisco, San Jose and Stanford area. Never in LA.

I know there is one Universal Park in LA but it is quite far from Lima so I wouldnt go there just for the park. It takes some 8 hours flight to Dallas and maybe 4 to LA so thats quite a bit more than the total 5 hours to Miami when you include all the airports and everything.

I've been to Universal Studios Osaka in Japan thou, but that was simply because I found myself in the Osaka area as part of a tour.

We have a Universal Studios/City Walk in Los Angeles too, lots of fun. Have you ever been to the LA one? Florida might even be a faster flight from Lima than it is from Los Angeles -- never thought of it that way.

The Doubltree at the Entrance to Universal Orlando just as its name says is right across the street from the Universal Resort in Florida and is a 5 minute ride away from the parking lots serving both Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure theme parks. While Disney is a bit further, the way there is very direct and is it only takes some 15 minutes to get there.

Overall, the location is great, the prices are much cheaper that at any hotel of this quality located inside either Disney or Universal resort and the rooms are big, clean and nice overall.

We got an amazing price through our travel agent which was 50% cheaper than the official online rate and was just $20 more expensive than the nearby motels that in no way can compare in quality. Overall I would definetly stay at this hotel again whenever I am in the Orlando area.
