Xela, Tajamulco, Fuentes Georginas
November 8, 2007
Next stop was Xela (also known as Quetzaltenango). The main reason I came here was to hike up Tajamulco, the highest volcano in central America.
It was a pretty early start and a long way up but the hike was pretty good, as was camping up at 4000m - if you ignore the frostbite. The views in the morning were something spectacular, especially sunrise and the amazing volcano shadow thrown on the clouds.
Next day i went to Fuentes Georginas to rest me weary legs in the hot springs. first time I had been to hot springs and can´t believe I have missed that all my life, was amazing. Spent the afternoon and evening lurking in the hot water with beer in hand, occaisionally emerging when it got too hot for me to bear.
