Details from the theater next to the hotel.
Today I decided to stay close to my hotel and explore the area in a little more detail. First was a walk to the Vaci Utca, a pedestrian area with lots of touristy shops, well known brand name stores and expensive restaurants. I would actually recommend anyone visiting the city to walk around for one day and not come back, there are much better places in the city to see and explore. After gawking at the expensive stores and food, I wandered to St. Stephen's Basilica area. I walked around the side streets and stumbled upon a demolition site. So after 45 minutes and one story destroyed later, I finally made it to the Basilica. A wedding was just letting out and I took a picture of the happy couple, a very festive atmosphere. An entrance fee of approximately $10.00 and I was walking up the dome and a 360 degree view of the entire city. This I would definitely recommend this and it is well worth the entrance fee. After the spectacular views it was a walk to the northern side of the city to see the Nyugati Station and the West End Center Shopping. For those that would like to relax, go up to the top floor (take the escalators by the front entrance to the third floor) and you will walk out into a park. It's very quiet and only the locals know about it. Then it was back to the hotel for a nap and then back out to explore the area again at night.
