I arrived at Newark Liberty Airport, making it the last airport I needed to visit in the NYC area, on Friday afternoon. Having just come back from Phuket and Seoul on Tuesday, needless to say, my internal body clock was screwed up! But hey, we all need a little bit of adventure, don't we? The scheduled plane to Amsterdam was canceled and the only way to ge there on time was flying to Detroit (the wrong way) and then over to Amsterdam.
Finally arriving in Amsterdam at 11:30 am, I walked the streets trying to find my friend's place by a canal. What I thought would take me 30 minutes turned out to be an hour and hours. Darn canals! Though I have to admit, it was a nice walk and I saw places that I would have never seen. I finally arrived at my friend's place only to learn that I had to climb three sets of stairs.
After getting freshened up, we walked to the Rijksmuseum area and then grabbed lunch. An an area that is supposed to be filled with Dutch folks, we were surrounded by British tourists, some of which were really annoying. A little more walking and a bit of shopping, we decided to head to an area of Amsterdam where the gay bars were located. After a few drinks, with a vodka shot thrown in, and trying to get the waiter's attention, we moved down a few doors to the tapas restaurant where two groups of Spanish tourists celebrating two birthdays. What are the odds in that?
So after a bumpy start and deprived of sleep; having drinks, eating good food and hanging with my friends was an excellent ending to the night.
