''Little India'' in Singapore

Lembu Road, Little India, Singapore

I would like to share with all of you one of my favorite place in Singapore called ‘Little India’. It is located at Serangoon Road. I spend a lot of time in this place to compare with any other places in Singapore. This place is a centre for the Indian community and you can see many colors, very lively and also smell of nice scents. The MRT train ride take about 20mins directly from my place. It is very convenience for me.

There are wet market, supermarket, food centre, restaurants, shopping centre and my barber. The wet market is called Tekka. To add to that, there is a shopping centre called Mustafa centre. You can find mostly everything there and it open 24hrs. There are plenty of restaurants that you can choose from. One of my favorite is Banana Leaf Apolo. There are expensive restaurant to a very cheap one, depend on what you fancy. If you are a vegetarian, there are a lot of vegetarian restaurant around.

You can also find a night market at Buffalo Road.  There are places that you can take photo like the Indian Temples and Mosque. Along Serangoon Road, step in to any Sarees shop and it is very colorful. Things that you can find there are silk, clay pot, jewelleries, Indian music CD and movies to name a few.

During Deepavali, Indian celebration of lights, usually around Oct/Nov, along this streets are full of lights everywhere, it is nicely decorated and you also can find a festive bazaar. The other celebration are called Thaipusam somewhere in Jan/Feb. You can see many of the faith of devotees, very colourful and ritualistic. On Sundays, this place can become very crowded when many Indian or Bangladesh foreign workers come here to shop, eat, or meet their friends.

I hope you will find this place interesting and you want to come back again. If you are in Singapore and want to spend sometime in Little India, leave me a message. Have a nice tour, J.
