Butterflies and Frogs in Monteverde/Santa Elena
May 6, 2006
After arriving in Monteverde, we spent the afternoon at the Butterfly Garden. It is an education center that breeds butterflies and insects from all different areas in Costa Rica. We released butterflies that has just come out of their cocoons in the different gardens. Ours was a blue morpho, which is the most famous butterfly in Costa Rica.
After dinner, when frogs are most active, we went to the Frog Pond. Our guide shined his flashlight in to the different displays to help us see the frogs. Many were colorful and most were poisonous to other animals. A few were poisonous to humans. Our guide imitated all the frog calls, which was very entertaining.
