Birding in the Monteverde Reserve

Quetzel seen through a spotting scope

This morning, we woke up very early to go on our 6am birding trip.  Our guide, Adrian, carried a spoting scope and a good pair of binoculars for us to use.  He was very good at spotting near-hidden birds and could imitate all the calls.  We saw about 20 different birds, including the rare quetzal.  Adrian did not let us miss a single spotting.  He ran down the trail if he heard a bird that we hadn´t seem yet and had us running along with him.  He was just as excited as we were to see the exotic-looking birds!   He helped us take photos throug the spotting scope, but unfortunately, the camera didn´t focus on most tries.  We also saw a large group of spider monkeys, which are very rare in the Monteverde Reserve.

After our morning tour, we ate lunch and walked to a small waterfall, where we saw the spider monkeys again!
