Carlton Hotel - San Francisco
The Carlton was the first hotel i stayed at in San Francisco.
PROS:
+ price
+ helpful staff
+ decor (cuban style)
NEGS:
- location
- neighbourhood
The room rates were totally fair compared to other hotels with "bigger" names... and everything was pretty alright. The room service, the tv service. The only thing that we were missing in our bedroom was a mini-bar.
The staff at the front desk, were very nice and helpful. Not the type of poshy and highnosed attitude. They left a good impression, and didn't pull of a show to get some extra tip. As i've already mentioned the amazing manager in my review about the georgian hotel in santa monica. I guess these guys from the Carlon hotel, would get the second award for the "friendly staff" :)
the decor looks cubanish. you can't complain about it. the lobby's is a little bit small, but that's no big deal. there are also 2 computers with internet.
The area isn't the best one though... it's actually not far away from union square. 5-6 Blocks. But the street goes downhill, so it's stuck between to hill-roads. So in the morning when you get out, you only see like 2 streets, with lots of homeless peoples, and not-so-nice-looking people. you have to walk uphill until you see the union square area.
we never had any problems tough... same counts for the neighbourhood, there are no bars, or shops around the hotel...you gotta walk a a few blocks east-ward.
if i wouldn't a find an hotel closer to the union square, i surely would turn back to the Carlton Hotel, it was a positive experience
