The only shock on the drive came when we stopped for coffee at Mac Donalds. My friend insisted and after checking that I had heard her correctly I agreed, how was I to know that they had lattes and cakes at Mac Donalds, it was lovely and the coffee as good as any Starbucks or big chain coffee house ! then back in the car to finish the drive.
Margaret River is a compact town with lots of bars and restaurants , quite funky really and you can see the bones of the sleepy town it once was. But this is now wine central and there must be more than 60 wineries around the area. Get on a good tour and they will take you to some of the big guns but more fun still the little operations where you get to meet the owner and share his passion if just for a moment. Luckily the beaches are very close and there are some lovely paths to take advantage of.
