Le Village in le snow

After a storm in Vancouver which ripped down a lot of power on the roads and closed one of the bridges we nearly didn't get to go but thank god my room mate knew all the roads and was good at driving in snow (while I was holding on for dear life).
Whistler had just had a massive snow fall in the morning and all the roads were covered in about 1 m snow and the sides and everywhere else about 2 m snow. After strolling around the village we decided to head out to a shelter where you should be able to walk the dogs (and do a good deed). It turned out that it was much further than we thought and we got a lift from a really nice guy. Chatting in a car something might not seem far away but after walking the most adorable dog we had to find our way back on foot.
This might not sound so bad. But we were dressed for regular walking (we were just there to have a look, not to do winter sports) in snow, not for an hour in 1 m snow. The reason for the deep snow was that since it had just falled it hadn't been removed from the foot path yet, just the roads. And after walking to our thighs in snow we decided to risk walking on the road with all the cars. This went fine for a while, all the cars nearly pulled over to the other side around us. This however changed when two massive trucks/lorries came from opposite directions with us in the middle.
We could see the black road slush being flung in a several meter high wave to the side of the truck, and since there was another one coming we got more and more panicky and seriously considered diving head first into the snow but either way it looked like we were getting slushed in best case and hit by a truck in the worst case. Luckily the trucks managed to slow so much that we were only moderately dirty up to our knees. I think we should consider ourselves lucky for the day. After getting back we had a nice hot chocolate in the village ... ahh... I dare say this was not the common way to experience the village ;)
