A Day Downtown . . .
August 26, 2007
We went to downtown Wilmington with the intention of enjoying some jagerschnitzels at a German restaurant. The last time we went downtown, they were closed
We hopped into our car, turned on the air-condition and headed for The Cotton Exchange. It is comprised of eight buildings erected in the early 1900's. Now they are host to several shops and restaurants
Usually, I am the photographer but my husband decided to take the camera from me because I looked like a tourist. So he takes control and starts snapping away. He seems to have a problem with following directions. And most of his pics came out bad
The German Cafe was closed again
Plan B went into effect. On to Paddy's Hollow Restaurant & Pub. It's a pretend Irish pub. The bartender said so herself. My bacon cheddar burger was actually good with the barbeque sauce they added
After lunch we took a stroll down on Water Street and Front Street. There was a vendor on Water Street selling jewelry. I bought a necklace. As I walked away, I couldn't believe I did that. I paid $10 for a necklace that I can make myself. Let's just consider that a contribution to the woman who spent time and effort into making it and standing outside in the upper 90 degree heat
We ended our day relaxing in an area off to the side with picnic tables under several trees

This so called Irish Pub is located in The Cotton Exchange in the Historic District. I say 'so called' because the bartender told us that it's more of American Fares.
I had a BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger. I know it's not Irish but there was nothing else good. I rather enjoyed it with the BBQ sauce added. My husband had the Corned Beef on Rye which wasn't bad either. They have a varied menu from Seafood to Pasta. They have more Southern dishes.
They offer a reasonable selection of 16 draft beers and a very small selection of bottled beers. They do have a long wine list.
If you want beer or wine, there's plenty here.
