asam and asiah, island homestay
Hi everyone,
Well I am currently sitting in an internet cafe in Penang trying to work out how to get to Krabi with everyone. We were supposed to be taking a minivan across the border into Thailand but apparently there is 85km of flooding, so that may not happen! Trent is currently trying to organise what we're going to do. Options include taking a boat around Langkawi into Thailand or flying in. I have not been feeling well the past 3 days so it's not too good. Shona, the Scottish girl I'm travelling with, has not been at all well this morning.
The island homestay out of Kuala Kangsar was fantastic. It was absolutely idyllic - hammocks, little huts scattered around - all in the middle of a freshwater lake. We hiked to a waterfall and went swimming and it was lovely. While on the hike we passed through a village and got invited to a wedding that was being held the next day. That night we took part in a traditional Muslim dinner getting dressed up in sarongs, sitting on the floor and eating only with our right hand (no cutlery :)). The next day we got dressed in our sarongs and headed to the wedding again in the village. This was a fantastic experience and one that we were very lucky to get to take part in. It was almost surreal actually. The bride was all dressed up in traditional clothing and we all got eggs wrapped in fake flowers and decorated, a gift designed to increase our fertility.
Okay I'll have to leave it there as we're going to head to Kek Lok Si temple. Bye all!
