We travelled to Pokara 130klms north west of KTM, taking 6-7hrs on a good tourist bus.  There are a lot of checkpoints in and around Nepal, manned by police and army forces, where local people are thoroughly checked and their buses too, but the tourist buses are not bothered.  We just have to negotiate the back log of traffic.  We had hired a porter and a Nepali guide to take us on a 5 day trekking circuit.

Day 1

Drive by Taxi driver who has death wish to Nayapul and trek to Hille 1460m for 6 hours.

Day 2 Trek to Ghorepani  2850m for 7 hours.

Day 3 Trek to Tadapani 2560m via early morning rise to Poon Hill.

We got up at 5am and walked to the top of Poon Hill for a spectacular sunrise and panorama of mountains that were between 7000m and 8000m in height. It was good, but I was asleep for most of the walk.

Day 4 Trek to Ghandrung 1950m for 5 hours.

Day 5 Trek to Nayapul, catch a taxi back to Pokara and chill out.

It was a 50klm walk, the first two days all up mountain sides and I found it difficult at times.  Thank god our little  4 foot 30 kg porter was carrying all our bags, or I might still be there.  We stayed in tea houses at night which had very friendly hosts, and at one place we helped a local chick make some butter with some contraption.

The walk back down the mountain side was equally scenic and very peaceful.  This is a popular trek to do as it is short and reasonably adventurous.  We met quite a few other people walking along the way.   Apparently there were two Korean girls doing the trek and their porter was carrying their Samsonite luggage bags.  You know the suit cases with wheels.

So after 5 days of walking around the countryside I was over it, and was glad to get back to Pokhara.  Paul and I went straight to a local barber shop and received a fresh shave using a very sharp razor blade for 60 cents AUD.  They also tried to give us a massage and a hair cut, but the shave was enough and no cuts !!!
