We headed off for a two day rafting trip along the Bhoti Koshi river at a cost of about $65 US all inclusive. The first day we drove some 3hrs north towards the Tibetan border. After lunch we went through the safety briefing and in 3 rafts with 6 people and 1 guide we rafted for a few hours down the Bhoti Koshi, which had some spectacular scenery. You were travelling in between villages, people fishing/washing/bathing/swimming and going about their daily grind. Some of the mountains were so steep on either side you got a sore neck trying to check it all out. And all the locals we passed waved and yelled out "Hello!"
So it was an introduction to the rafting for many of us and a real cool and different way to see the countryside. After that we were driven to a place called Last Resort 14klms from the Tibetan border, where we walked 50m across a steel suspension bridge some 160 meters above the Bhoti Koshi river.
That night we chilled out over a few beers, in a really groovy hut including bar area with heaps of little tables and pillows to kick back and relax.
Next day we rafted for about 4 to 5 hours down the Bhoti Khosi river, which was about a grade 3 river due to a low rain fall. Main rain is in July to Sept. But the river still presented its challenges and a fantastic time was had by all, and again we got to see some spectacular scenery from the river. At one stage the river was blocked by a steel suspension bridge which had been knocked down by Maoists some 2 weeks earlier.
We have had no trouble and I am not expecting any in
