A little more beer a little more cheer
August 18, 2007
Saturday morning I rolled out of the air mattress at about 10 am. That was the latest the adults would let us sleep in. Since grandma had been there for a week she had been baking and had sweet rolls for breakfast. We all gt up and dressed and then ended up waiting and waiting and waiting some more..
Finally we decided to leave grandma at home to wait for the other relatives to show up and he rest of us youngins went to New Belgium Brewery. We parked on the street and walked in. We had missed the guided tour so instead we sat at the bar and picked which 4 drinks we wanted. My neice was there and she had this sprtizer, peach mange lemonade drink. It was in a bigger glass but she was too shy to take a picture. She loosened up a bit a while later and we took some pictures together. We wondered the gift shop and I bought her a little bike bell to ring when she bikes. I got some lip balm for myself which I thought was awesome.
We left and I was slightly tipsy, which I of course blamed on the high altitude and ultimate lack of sleep on this trip. My cousin bought some souvenier beer to take home and we threw it in my cooler. We headed back to the house to chill for a while then went to the Eagle Scout Court of Honor. Our whole reason for this adventure.
It was held at a church and various family members showed up as well as a city council member to celebrate the festivitie. My two cousins were both presented the Eagle Scout award. The ceremony was very nice and we got free food afterwards. The after party was mixed Margaritas at my aunts house with the whole family present.
The backdrop was the awesome lightening storms that we saw out the windows. neato!

Fort Collins in a college town and it is filled with breweries. New Belgium Brewery is a fun and cheap way to check out a Brewery. There loads of parking. You head inside and you can purchase a guided tour or you can walk through a certain area by yourself and check out the process. Staying in the main room there are many tables and chairs where you can sit. The server comes around and hands out a paper with a list of beers. You can pick up to 4 for free. They bring out samples for you to try. The beers are on tap and cold and refreshing. Also for the young or non beer drinkers there is sparkling water and a lemonade with different flavors (Peach Mango on this day, my niece wasn't particularly thrilled)
Also on hand is a products you can buy. You can get beer on tap, bottles of beer, shirts with the logo, chap stick, a bike bell, Frisbees and more.
The brewery is employee owned and very eco friendly. They support bike riding and they give employees New Belgium bikes. Supposedly after 5 years the company will pay for a 2 week vacation to Belgium. Not so surprisingly there is a low turnover rate for employees.
The employees are very friendly and will kibitz about beer with you and will tell you about each kind. They can pretty much figure out which beer you are drinking by the color.
The place is very fun and they have all kinds of quicky things around. Like a shrine to Saint Martin (who encourages drinking of beer instead of water in the middle ages which saved many peoples lives), also they have mirrors to show your beer belly, beer quotes and many other little knicknacks. They also have post cards available which you fill out and place in mailboxes that they will mail for you for FREE.
Its a fun enjoyable brewery and definitely worth the price.
