The Getty Center
Tourism activity of the day.... The Getty Center.  It opened 8-10 years ago and is in the book 1000's places to see before you die, so I get to check off another.  It is free entrance and $8.00 to park.  They have a whole list of activities going on at the Getty Center each day and tons of people to answer any questions.  You take a tram up to the top of one of the peaks right next to Belair.

Once at the top we decided to walk around for 45 mins before a garden tour that was being offered.  When you first enter the museum entrance there is this weird undescribable piece of art, which consequently plays music on the hour.  See the picture.  We went back to hear it on the hour expecting it to sound nice like a piano or trumpet.

.. no it sounded awful but it was still cool how it all worked.

We visited another art exhibit quickly before our tour.
My favorite part of the day was the garden tour which lasted about an hour.  First we looked at the landscaping on the site.  The tour guide pointed out how straight trees were laid in a line and maintained to all be the exact same size.  when looking at them down the line it looks like there is only one tree when there are really 6-10 in a row.  Pretty cool, I would have never noticed that without the tour guide pointing it out.  Along the way we saw great views of LA.

Then we made it to the gardens.  You start by walking down a zig zagging path through trees with a river and many plants from all over california strategically placed.
Looks like one tree... but there are really many trees in a line.
We were told by the tour guide that the trees all had every other leaf removed by the gardeners to allow the propper light to come though.  Although this is nature and plants it is really a piece of artwork.  We were lead around the garden being told about the artistic views which was really great.  I took so many pictures!  Another great feature of the Getty Museum is they provide umbrellas that you can get from all over to help shade yourself from the strong LA sun.

After we finished up with a few more art exhibits before we couldn't stand any longer.

We drove home along sunset blvd. then along the coast so I could see santa monica, venice beach, and marina del rey.  It was a great day in sunny LA.
