Seal which has escaped the orcas up on the boat between the motors

Once there was a group of people going out on the water to see the majestic killer whales that the area is known for. Everybody was therefore thrilled when we encountered the groups of females, young animals and a calf. No males, they would have been easy to recognize on their huge dorsal fin.

All of a sudden though we saw that they were busy with something and a tiny little furry head popped up in the middle of the pod. A harbour seal with eyes huge of fear and blood around one eye... it was heart breaking to observe. The massive animals pulled it underwater, everybody's eyes were fixed, the ocean almost flat, people dead quiet, and then, one of the orcas shot out the water with the seal in it's mouth screaming and landing in the water. They kept going at it with speed and then it went quiet again.

Seal trying to escape up on the boat
The orcas started circling further away from each other. All boats were over 100m away. Now they started coming closer and closer to one of the boats. They started circling around it, everybody assumed the seal had somehow managed to swim under the boat...

Someone to my left yelled "on the boat"!!! Everybody looked, and there the seal was, it had managed to climb up between the two motors on the back platform! Since whale watching boats are not allowed to interfere the pushed the seal back into the water but they didn't sail away afterwards (idiots) so of course the seal tried to get up again, and it did again, and they pushed it down again. In the end the poor seal was so confused that it couldn't find the right end of the boat and just tried to get safe anywhere it could. It pushed up along every side of the boat and all the spectators could hear when the claws panickly scratched on the metal hull....

At this point I had to leave with my group.....so I will have to leave it to your imagination... but wow.... I do work in the marine field, seeing a seal being attacked by orcas should just be the order of nature... but my heart still aches, especially memorizing one moment where the seal turned around and looked at me with those shiny fearful eyes...
