Had another cultural day today - visited the Islamic Museum and the Cat Museum! We walked around to the Islamic Museum first, and were the only ones there. This small museum is very well set up, and has lots of interesting information and exhibitions about the Muslim religion, particularly in SArawak. There are 7 galleries in all, with displays about mosques, literatures, weaponry, architecture, science and so on. The galleries are not large and give you enough information without overpowering you. Some of the exhibits are quite old and each room has a good explanation in English - well worth a visit if you have time.
We then took the bus up to the Civic Hall, part of which houses the Cat Museum. Kuching is known as the City of Cats and this museum has grown to quite a size, particularly as cat-lovers from around the world often send them new things for display.
We then walked back down the riverfront after wandering down India Street and had lunch at the food court again before doing some internet updating. We'll go home now and sort out our bags for the next few days - we're heading off on an overnight longhouse trip tomorrow, so that should be interesting. Unfortunately, Melissa's cookery class didn't happen, so hopefully we can find one in Kota Kinabalu or Sandakan later on.
