A sunny day in the Northwest

Went on a brief side trip to Zion National Park in Utah last February. Weather was mild, clear and the park virtually empty. The solitude of the place always amazes me.

A sunny day in the Northwest

Since I live in Northwest Washington, and tourism is my profession, guess I should share a few things about my home. Bellingham WA has a population of around 75,000. Located due North of Seattle by 80 miles and South of Vancouver B.C. by about 55 miles, it sits in an amazing region of outdoor beauty (yeah, sounds like hyperbole, but it's not). To the east is majestic Mt. Baker, the virtual birthplace of snowboarding and one of the most popular hiking area of the Cascade Range. To the West are the San Juan Islands and Victoria, Vancouver Island. Bellingham and Whatcom County is a refreshing change from the bigger cities, with neat historic districts like Fairhaven or the Dutch community of Lynden. There's cultural amenities, great festivals like Ski to Sea, an outstanding university (WWU) and more than 40 miles of greenspace and trails.
