All around Paris

These photos are selections from the 900 or so that Lauren took while we were in Paris. Some highlights to draw your attention to:
-We had just stood all day waiting for the Tour de France bikers to come through and immediately afterwards I required Lauren to take the "scenic route" up to the Sacre Coeur. I told her it was better to come at it the back way than climb the stairs or take the funiculaire...which, I mean, is fine, but when you've been on your feet all day and are trying to find your way with someone who hasn't lived in France in three years, it's sort of a long walk. I got her there the best I could, I mean...we eventually made it and she got some killer photos.
-We went to the Centre Georges Pompidou, which I could tell Lauren wasn't enthused about (her not being an appreciator of modern art), but she had fun making faces at the more questionably beautiful works. I had fun seeing paintings by Kandinsky because I admire his work. We ate lunch outside on the sloping "lawn" and watched some interesting jugglers and other assorted entertainers...people on unicycles, that sort of thing.
-A favorite thing to do was sit and drink Muscadet at random cafes...and one afternoon we sat near the Pont Neuf for a good two hours with a bottle of wine and a view of rush hour traffic. That was a good time...soaking in the sunshine of the late afternoon.
-The afternoon we spent at the Louvre was a long one...there is so much to see that it's slightly overwhelming. Fortunately, we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to see, so we tried to make our way through with a purpose. Unfortunately, we got lost, and ended up hanging out in the atrium with all the statues for like 25 minutes. It seemed that no matter where we turned, we ended up back there. We almost started to get a little panicky that we couldn't find our way out. Fortunately though, we made it through...and in the mean time we took lots of pictures among the statues.
