olives- symbol of Ayvalik

Our hotel was actually located in Saramsakli, the Ayvalik's suburb, where was one of two the longest and most beautiful beaches in Turkey.  It was really a very nice four stars hotel where we had a halfboard service. Hotels are arranged one next to another in streets that separate blocks, giving a picture of something like a town of hotels. We walked by shore and imagined how nice it had to be its beaches in summer. The beach was full of nice shells that were washed ashore by the waves. Between Ayvalik and Saramsakli is the Seytan sofrasi hill from where is a great view over the whole area. Looking to the horizon on the west is the Greek island Lesbos with a port in Mitilini. From Mitilini is a ferry also to Dikili in Turkey, south of Ayvalik. In Dikili is Altinova, another longest beach in Turkey. Cunda island is 5km away from Saramsakli.

Ayvalik is famous for olives which is also town's symbol. In 2015 they got the medal for the world's best olive oil. Olives are also always at the table for the Turkish breakfast. In every souvenir shop you'll  find something with olives, you cannot miss it. Whenever I look at my souvenirs from Ayvalik, I remember the place with a wish to come back to it for a summer holiday.
