Arriving St. Petersburg
December 14, 2005
St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is often referred to as the Venice of the North or the Paris of the East, but its beauty is really a brand all its own. From the White Nights festival during the mysterious summer twilight to top theater and ballet productions and concerts on magical winter evenings, the city offers a vibrant cultural life that is second to none.
We plans to visit The Hermitage, The Winter Palace, St. Isaac Square, The Cathedral of the Resurrection and walk down Nevsky Prospekt. Nevsky Prospekt is the most important street in the historical centre of St. Petersburg. And will bee seted in Ice Placa Hall to support our handboll team.

The Pulkovskaya Hotel is a modern hotel situated in Mosovsky Avenue, Victory Square; an area with historic monuments, parks and wide streets, nine kilometres from St Petersburg city centre. The hotel is probably one of best hotels in terms of value for money. This was a perfekt hotel for us during our stay in St. Petersburg. Good breakfast and dinner resturants, and a small souvernir shop.
Just a few 100 meters from the hotel ther is a large shoppingcentra.
St.Petersburg Pulkovo Airport is five kilometers from the hotel.
Feeling for it you can enjoy a swim in the indoor pool, and then relax with a session in the sauna or a cup of coffee in the lobby.
You can walk to the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad, 50 metres away, or visit the attractions of the city centre.
Just a few hundred meters from the hotel you can reach the Metro (underground).

The Winter Palace with huge dimensions, rich decorative svheme and grand appearence is a personification of the might of the Russian Empire and the supreme power of its autocrat. The palace is on the left bank of the Neva.
Walking along suites of state rooms in the Winter Palace and the Hermitages, you can enjoy really superb examples of interior decoration ranking with the worlds best achievments.
Visiting The Winter Palace is a must when you visit St. Petesburg. As a museum including all the famous painters in the world, it is outstanding.
I read in a guide that experts means that it takes 11 years if you study each exhibit. I will recomend you to have a guided tour becaus it is difficult to chose what to see, and the guide will lead you to the most famuos paintings.

St. Petersburg's metro is some 105 km long (total length varies according to criteria applied) and has 60 stations (average station distance 1770m). Like in Moscow, older stations are elegantly decorated whereas newer stations show a more functional design. The metro works between 6 a.m. and 1 a.m. and trains pass every 95 seconds during rush hour and every 4 minutes the rest of the day.
The Metro is a beautiful and unusual Metro. We used the Metro frekvently, to take us round in St. Petersburg, and just for expering the Metros beauty.
