A short rest at Ă…re

Within the boundaries of Ă…re local authority you will encounter alpine massifs, lakes, wilderness and fertile agricultural land and the region has attracted visitors from time immemorial. During the Stone Age, hunters and fishermen were exploring the area whereas the medieval pilgrims passed through the Ă…re valley on their way to the cathedral in Nidaros, nowadays Trondheim.
In the late 19th century the reasons for travelling to Ă…re changed. Many people wanted to escape the pollution in the industrialized areas and came to Ă…re to inhale the fresh air and admire the grand nature.
Today, tourism is the most important business sector in Ă…re. The local area is enjoying a positive development with substantial ongoing investments within tourism. The number of new businesses is impressive.
Ă…re is a very good place for downhill skiing. I used to travel to Ă…re in wintertime to go downhill, and if you don`t bother to bring you`r carwing with you, you can alwas rent.
And all I will do in Ă…re this time is having a cup of coffee.
