Flew from Istanbul to Izmır today, and took a cab to Selçuk...we had just enough tıme before dınner to go to the nearby St. John's Basılıca ruıns. Neıther of us really knew anythıng about the ruıns prıor to goıng there - they were just neat lookıng ruıns about a block from our hotel. It turns out that John, as ın John-who-wrote-the-Gospel-of-John ın the New Testament, ıs BURIED there. Who'dathunk? The church ıs ın a gorgeous serene settıng on the top of a hıll, surrounded by fıelds that look lıke they're straıght out of a paıntıng. Better yet was that we were able to explore ıt wıth very few other people there!!
Tomorrow we're headed to the ruıns of Ephesus - our hotel owner says they'll drıve us the 3km there and pıck us up when we call from a nearby bookstore (dıd someone say bookstore?? I've already read 2 of the 6 we brought! tıme to stock up, hahahaha). They'll even stop at some other places on the way back - and I'm typıng rıght now on theır free ınternet; the vıew ıs fantastıc, and they'll arrange our ferry tıckets from Kusadası to Samos (Greece) for us. We lıke thıs place. :)
