Tikal, Guatemala - Parque Nacional de Tikal
So apparently the big thing to do here is check out Tikal at sunrise, so of course we had to experience it for ourselves! One catch though, we had to get up extra early to do so . . . 3:30 am! Then on top of that, our guide expected us to hike through the forest in the dark, until we reached the top of temple IV in Tikal. And well being that I'm not your average hiker, it was rather tough for me!!
As we headed towards our destination, we could hear a bunch of unknown noises all around us. There we were in the pitch dark and all around us we could hear all sorts of weird sounds. Some people in the group even thought that one of the growls we'd heard was a jaguar, but actually we later found out that the noises were actually the howler monkeys all around us. A first for me!
Besides that, other noises we heard included birds of all sorts.
Scary for me!? Nah! And once we reached the top of the temple and awaited the sun to rise . . . Wow! An unforgettable experience. Let's try . . . magical, mysterious, peaceful, exhilarating . . . all that and more. Hard to explain in words, so you'll have to experience it for yourself! So very pleased to have lived this once in a lifetime experience. The tour, itself, was also really interesting because the guide was so passionate about the subject, so we got great info as well. The Mayans were such an advanced civilization, much more than the Aztecs!!?? Hmm?!! Definitely visit this place if you come to Guate!!
Tikal attention!
cool!! A
