Semuc Champey, Guatemala

Semuc Champey, Guatemala - Une maison à Semuc Champey
Semuc Champey, one of Guate´s major tourist attractions, was really beautiful.  The Río Cahabón was a bit brownish in color due to all the recent rainfall, but to our surprise the natural pools in Semuc Champey remained a greenish-blue color.  So, of course, we took a dip in the pozas, careful not to fall into the parts where the water rushes off into the river and waterfalls.

We also decided to do the tour of Las Cuevas K'an Ba, which are also located in this area.  Now that was an experience to remember!  Too bad we weren´t able to take our cameras into the caves! In any case, it entailed going into a pitch-dark cave in nothing other than our bathing suits!  Oh yeah, and also a candle to help guide the way!  Well, it was supposed to, in any case!  So we went up and down, in and out, swimming through the chilly waters of the cave, as best we could with the little bit of light we had!

At one point, I got really tired from swimming with one hand, ‘cause remember the other one was holding the candle, and I nearly went down! Luckily Arnaud was close enough to save me! So from then on I held on to his back for the rest of the visit in the “bat cave”.

Did I forget to mention that there were little bats flying around in the cave, as well!?? Creepy!!

But that’s not where the excitement ended.  There was one last “stunt” we were to do before exiting the cave . . . there was a pretty strong waterfall up ahead, and we were supposed to try to get around it, by climbing another flimsy ladder (one of many in the cave).  Now, don’t know if you can picture it at all, but it was dangerous! We did it, though, and how proud I was of myself!

In all, the visit was well worth it, despite the absence of security during the visit, and so I'm not sure I'd do it again; But you guys would have to see for yourselves!
