Sarlat, France - Un bon repas du papy

Almost there!!  For now though, quick stop in Sarlat-la-Canéda to spend some quality time with Papi Maurice!

Whenever we visit Arnaud’s grandpa, we always have a delicious meal, which is usually followed by a stroll around Sarlat’s historic city center . . . and this time would be no different!  ;)

Yum, so of course, we were served up his famous “aiguillettes de canard & patates à la sarladaises,” and boy did we enjoy the specialty of the region, as only he can master it!!

Lunch was scrumptious as always and though our walk through downtown Sarlat is the routine, we highly enjoyed the moment with Grandpa Maurice.

Sure did help to burn off some of those calories we’d just accumulated from our meal .

. . not that I really needed to, considering all the weight I’d lost during our trip!!

At this point, I was really just trying to put on any extra weight I could before finally reaching Villeneuve!!

I guess I was a bit nervous of what Arnaud’s mommy’s reaction would be to all my weight loss (she constantly says I’m as light as a feather and that the wind is going to blow me away!)

Anyhow, our visit to Sarlat went smoothly as we’d expected . . . good food, nice walk, lovely company . . . yes, the routine as usual!

Everything went as expected . . . well, not exactly!

This time around what would change would be the way we returned to Villeneuve . . . and memorable it would be!!

To save us the burden of hitchhiking, Papi Maurice kindly volunteered himself to drive us all the way to Villeneuve itself!!

Sure why not!!  We weren’t going to refuse his generous offer!!

Little did we know, though, that we’d be in for a BIG scare!!!  :(

You see, up until that point, I had never seen Arnaud’s grand-daddy’s driving skills, first-hand, and well I wasn’t prepared for the ride!!

Oh my goodness!  We had survived the many crazy rides throughout our adventures around the world – the never-ending hitchhiking journeys throughout Latin America, a very close-call with death during a hitchhiking journey in NZ, and let me not forget the infamous and skillful drivers in India!!!

Despite the many scares I had experienced and survived throughout our RTW journey with Arnaud, never ever did I feel this afraid before!!!  I think I had THE scare of my life as we made our way to Villeneuve!

Gramps is a wild man on the road, no joke!!

And it wasn’t only me who was shaking in my boots!!  Arnaud was scared too!!

Now looking back, it’s actually hilarious really, because being that both of us were genuinely afraid for our safety, Arnaud gently asked his Papi Maurice to slow down a bit .

. . HUGE mistake!

The more Arnaud expressed his fear, the faster his grandpa would drive!

CRAZY!!  We had managed to return to the European continent without a scratch, and now being so close to home in France, we began to worry . . . we’re not gonna die now, are we?!!!

Throughout the entire journey he drove as if he were Speed Racer!!  Didn’t even slow it down for the curves, and boy is it a winding road from Sarlat to Villeneuve!!!!

It was an unforgettable drive, indeed!  That day I swore to NEVER get back in a car with Papi Maurice, if he was driving, of course!!

Thank God, the happy ending to the story is that we did make it safely to Villeneuve, but with a fear we would not soon forget!!!

Grandpa is a GREAT cook, but as far as driving is concerned . .

Sarlat, France - Papi la Bosse & Petit la Bosse à la Cathédrale Saint-Sacerdos de Sarlat
. let’s just say, he’s better off in the kitchen than on the road!  ;)

Sarlat, France - Sightseeing in Sarlat

Sarlat, France - Papi Maurice taking a quick nap!
