Oaxaca, México - Le paysage de l´état de Oaxaca
There's definitely a different feel here compared to previous towns we've visited so far. The poverty is a lot more obvious, and there appears to be a larger concentration of indigenous communities here. Fortunately for us though the people are still very kind and friendly. Oaxacans have managed to maintain their traditions and customs, and at the same time adapt themselves to all the tourists that come from all corners of the world.
Of course, we visited the historical center of the town, and also got to the Monte Albán Archaeological Site, for a great view of the city and learn more about the Zapotec civilization. We also got a chance to visit "El Árbol del Tule" It's supposedly the tree with the widest trunk in the world! Who knows!!?? The cool thing about the visit, wasn't the tree itself, but our little tourguide, Gabriel. A charming little 8-year old boy who gave our imaginations a push, to find the different shapes that were to be found in and around the tree!! And as for Oaxaca's specialities, of course we gave Mezcal, a try; others that were harder to swallow were the chapulínes and tejate drink. Gotta be used to it, I guess!!
