La Nueva Guatemala de la Asunción, Guatemala

Well, here we are amongst all the craziness of “Guate”.  Don’t know how to feel about being back in a big city because apparently the capital is supposed to be quite dangerous, and known for lots of robbery and all.  First impressions of Guatemala City: Lots of pollution, lots of colorful cheese buses aka chicken buses, and lots of chicken food joints!

 

Everywhere we turn there’s a Pollo Campero, or another chicken place of that sort!  It’s Pollo this or Pollo that here!  Guatemalans must love them some chicken!

 

Besides that, the city itself is not as dangerous as everyone makes it out to be.  Funny thing is, we actually got the impression that we were the only tourists walking around the city!  All the other visitors most likely rush off, out of fear, or maybe because there isn’t much to do in the capital.  Plus it's pretty run-down; in any case, got a chance to visit the sights and even chat a bit with the Guatemaltecos, who were very friendly and quite harmless.  Have no fear, just use some common sense!!
