Singapore - Singapore's Central Business District

If you’re into shopping, you definitely can’t miss out on Singapore!!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many shopping malls in such a small area!!  There was even a church that had been turned into a mall here!!!  Crazy!!

And wow, it’s so clean and orderly!  It was like being in the Switzerland of Southeast Asia!!

This tiny island state, also known as the "The Lion City," used to be part of Malaysia before becoming independent in 1965 . . . Did you know that?

Lots of folks automatically assume that it’s part of China, but no, it’s its own country and quite the developed one at that!

We enjoyed ourselves immensely here, particularly thanks to our CS contacts, the Kong family.  They made our stay here quite pleasant and we owe them big time for the hospitality they showed us!!

Strolling around Singapore was a delight; even though I wasn’t among the visitors who come here particularly for all the great shopping.

Singapore - Juanny and the Merlion

Like I previously mentioned, this place was spic and span, and it was obvious that there is lots of money here.

Funny story . . . as we toured the city with our host, Xieheng, we came across this girl, who was out shopping . . . pretty obvious with all her expensive shopping bags!!!

Anyway, Arnaud and I really looked like the poor backpackers next to this chick!!  I think just what she was wearing, added up to 6 months of traveling for us!!!  Incredible!

In any case, although we couldn’t get in any shopping (mainly ‘cause it was WAY too expensive!!! :( ), we had a great time here!

And Xieheng and his folks went far and beyond to make our stay here an enjoyable one.  We had some great talks, great traditional meals, exactly what we were hoping for during our time in Singapore!!

Our buddy, Xieheng (pronounced "Xiyeh-hung!!" :) ) even went out of his way to organize a little hiking outing with his friends.

Singapore - Singapore's Esplanade, Theatres on the Bay
 Great chaps, as well!

So enthusiastic and open to new people and experiences . . . just the type of folks we love and appreciate!!

As far as our little hiking trip . . . what a workout!!!  Thanks Xieheng!!  Didn’t think this could be possible in a big city-state like Singapore.

I bet most folks just picture lots of skyscrapers all about!

But yeah, you can find rather large green areas, as well!!  Believe me; we covered a huge part of it too!!

So, if you’re passing through, make a stop here, for sure.  The folks are incredibly helpful and friendly, and you’ll love the shopping . . . just bring loads of cash, ‘cause you’re gonna need it!!!!!!!!!!  :)

Singapore - Singapore River & Clarke Quay

Singapore - Bumboat sailing past Merlion Park
